I don't make music because life gave me something pretty to write about. I make music because sometimes it was the only place I could put everything life threw at me.
I'm DirtyJZ — Virginia born, Arizona raised, and built somewhere between survival mode and refusing to quit.
I've been homeless. I've lost people I thought I'd have forever. I've been through abuse, sickness, heartbreak, motherhood, working my ass off, and those moments where life hits you so many times you start wondering, damn… am I ever gonna catch a break?
But somehow, I'm still here.
And that's what my music sounds like.
Some days it's pain you can feel in your chest. Other days it's aggressive, loud, pissed off and ready to fight the whole damn world. I rap, I sing, I mix hip-hop with rock, country, soul—whatever the story needs. I never wanted to fit neatly inside one genre because I've never lived a life that fit neatly inside a box.
I'm not trying to convince anybody that I've got everything figured out. I don't.
I'm just willing to say out loud what a lot of people are thinking behind closed doors.
The anger. The grief. The hustle. Loving people who hurt you. Missing people who aren't coming back. Being exhausted but getting up for work anyway. Being somebody's mama while you're still trying to heal the little girl inside yourself. Laughing when everything is falling apart because sometimes that's all you've got left.
That's where these songs come from.
No perfect image. No fake life. No pretending the struggle didn't happen.
Because struggle didn't destroy me.
It gave me something to say.
And if you've ever had to build yourself back up with whatever pieces were left, maybe you'll hear a little bit of yourself in my music too.
